Michelle King is once again in Beijing, representing Guyana at the 18th Meet in Beijing Arts Festival and 2nd Caribbean Music Festival. The soca songstress was part of the line up of talented Caribbean musicians selected to perform during the inaugural Caribbean Music Festival and Caribbean Food Festival, which were launched in 2016 as part of the Year of Culture Exchange  between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries. After that very positive experience, she has returned to continue spreading her message of love and the up-tempo beat of soca music to the people of Beijing.

Michelle – known to her fans as “Big Red”, is a Soca Monarch, Road March Queen and Accolade winner who made her debut into the soca arena with her song “Energizer”. This was followed by Wine It, Bacchanal Fever, and Coming Alive. She has wooed international audiences in New York, London, Toronto, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago and was the first Guyanese musician to bring soca music to China.

The Meet in Beijing Arts Festival is an annual event sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Beijing Municipal Government and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and aims to promote cultural understanding and exchanges between China and countries around the world.

In 2013, the first Latin American and Caribbean Arts Season was launched as an official component of the Meet in Beijing Arts Festival, and now incorporates the Caribbean Music Festival, LAC Art Exhibition and other activities in the area of performing arts. The LAC Arts Season seeks to promote cultural exchanges and foster friendships between the peoples of China and Latin America and the Caribbean and presents unprecedented opportunities for the development of local cultural industries.

Big Red’s performances during the LAC Arts Season and Caribbean Music Festival are scheduled for 29th and 30th April at the Rose Bud Arts Centre in 798 Art District and May 2, 2018 at a Caribbean Night party at Tango Club (Yonghegong).
