    Important notice: Non-machine readable passports will no longer be valid after October 2015

    The Government of the Republic of Guyana, in responding to the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which requires the expiration of NON-MACHINE READABLE PASSPORTS by November 2015, is now issuing machine readable passports to all Guyanese both at home and abroad.

    This passport presents a stronger defence against identity theft, alteration, forgery and alien smuggling to the benefit of the Guyanese traveller, and provides all Guyanese with a document that is internationally respected. 

    It will facilitate hassle-free travelling around the world and fulfils Government’s commitment to promoting a common Caribbean identity.

    The Embassy of the Republic of Guyana in Beijing facilitates all $request$s for the issuance of Machine Readable Passports.

    Note: Applicants under the age of eighteen (18) years at the time of application must have the consent of their parents/legal guardian for all passport transactions.

    1.    Procedure for Renewal of Passport

    A “Renewal Form” is required for the renewal of a Republic of Guyana Passport which can be extended for a further period of five (5) years. There is only one (1) type of Renewal Form which could be used for both adults and children.
    Persons applying for the renewal of Guyana passports are to complete the application form (found herehttp://www.guyanapoliceforce.gy) and submit to the Embassy along with:

    1.     Two (2) recent passport-size colour photographs (not larger than 45×35mm (1.77×1.38 inches) or smaller than 32×26mm (1.26×1.02inches)

    2.     A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate

    3.     A copy of the Applicant’s Naturalized Certificate if he/she is a Naturalized citizen

    4.     A copy of the Applicant’s residence permit

    5.     Application fee

    Please note:

    1.     Machine readable passports are issued for a period of five (5) years only and are non-renewable. Applicants whose machine readable passports have expired, are required to apply for a new passport.

    2.    Applying for a New (Machine Readable) Passport

        Expatriate citizens of the Republic of Guyana desirous of applying for a new Machine Readable Passport (MRP) will present him/herself in person to the Embassy of Guyana in Beijing, or nearest Consular Office and submit an application.
        The completed application form will then be sent to the Central Immigration and Passport Office in Georgetown via courier service, for processing.
        Once the application has been processed, the passport will be personalized and issued to the originating Embassy/Consular Office by means of courier service. There, the Applicant will be required to uplift the passport in person.

    The new Machine Readable Passport is issued to:

    1.     All Guyanese citizens who are eligible and who are entitled to a passport.

    2.     All Guyanese children and adults who are applying for a passport for the first time.

    3.     Guyanese children who are named in their parents’ current passport.

    4.     Citizens whose current passports need renewing. These include passports that might have long expired or those whose validity are less than six (6) months.

    5.     Citizens whose current passports are lost, stolen or damaged.

     Processing Time

    1.     It takes approximately four (4) to six (6) weeks to process an application for a new Machine Readable Passport

    2.     Replacing lost passports takes approximately three (3) months

    3.     Replacing damaged passports takes approximately two (2) months

     Postage

     Passports may be returned via courier service under special circumstances, provided that the appropriate arrangements are made in advance with the Embassy. Applicants requiring this service must include these charges to the required fees. Applicants may also make pre-paid arrangements with their company of choice and have the Account Number and other relevant information transmitted to the Embassy.

    Application Procedure for a MRP 

    Step 1: Download application form for a new Machine Readable Passport (MRP) from one of the following websites:

    Step 2: Complete application form. All sections of the application form must be completely and accurately filled. The applicant will present him/herself physically to the Embassy of the Republic of Guyana in Beijing with the completed application form and required documents. These include:

    1.     Original passport along with two copies of the relevant pages of the old/previous passport – if re-applying and an old passport is available, copies are to be made of pages 1-4 and the bio-data page;

    2.     Birth Certificate – Birth Certificate - orginal and two additional copies;

    3.     Two recent colour passport-size photographs (no larger than 45×35mm (1.77×1.38 inches) or smaller than 32×26mm (1.26×1.02inches). Only one photograph is to be endorsed;

    4.     National Identification Card – if applicable;

    5.     Naturalized Certificate - if Applicant is a Naturalized citizen;

    6.     Registered Deed Poll – in the case of name change, along with the original and two copies of the Applicant’s birth certificate or where applicable, the original and two copies of the Registration certificate;

    7.     Marriage Certificate – in the case of married women, in addition to a copy of the husband’s birth certificate (an affidavit is also required if an Applicant has been known by/has been using names other than those on his/her official documents)

    8.     Residence permit

    Step 3: These forms will be sent to the Central Immigration and Passport Office in Guyana via courier.

    Step 4: The application will then be processed and the passport personalized and issued to the originating Consular Office – Guyana Embassy, Beijing (via courier), where the applicant will be required to uplift the MRP.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    1.     Applicants for a new passport will need suitable recommenders (or references) to complete Section 7 of the form, on their behalf.

    2.     Recommenders/guarantors need not be Guyanese nationals but must be of a professional status e.g. Justice of Peace, Member of Parliament, Minister of Religion, Doctor, Lawyer, Teacher, Bank Officer or Police Officer etc. The recommender/guarantor must affix his/her official stamp on all new passport applications.

    3.     Signatures must be in cursive writing (joined writing) and not in script.

    4.     Children under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by their parents. In the absence of either parent,consent must be given by the other parent. Other guardians are required to present documents proving legal guardianship.

    5.     Photographs must be taken full-faced with head uncovered. Please see size dimensions above.

    3.    Guideline for Lost or Damaged Passports:

    Damaged Passport:

    Applicants are required to submit a notarized affidavit stating the circumstances under which their passport was damaged, in addition to all of the above-stated requirements for a MRP.

    Lost  Passport:

    Guyanese citizens living abroad who have lost their passports are advised to report the matter to the nearest police station as soon as possible and obtain a copy of the police report. They are then required to submit, to the Embassy, a copy of that report along with a notarized affidavit stating the circumstances under which the passport was lost, the completed application form and all other documents listed under the requirements for a MRP.  

     4.    Inclusion of Child/Children (Applicable to holders on non-Machine Readable Passports)

    Documents Required:

    1.     Guyana Passport (for endorsement)

    2.     Child’s birth certificate – full version stating names of parent/s

    3.     Parent’s marriage certificate where applicable

    4.     Passport/birth certificate of father/mother where applicable

    5.     Consent of legal guardian where applicable

    6.     Two (2) recent passport-size photographs of child, duly certified

    5.    Change of Name by Marriage or Registered Deed Poll(Applicable to holders of non-Machine Readable Passports only)

     An observation re name change by marriage/deed poll will be endorsed provided that the applicant’s passport is less than fifteen (15) years from the date of issue (see page four of passport). A new passport could only be issued in the new name if the current passport exceeds fifteen years.

    2.     Husband’s birth certificate or passport

    3.     Divorce Decree Absolute or Death Certificate where applicable
