    Guyana Import Requirements

    (Section 111 Imports, of the Plant Protection Act of 2011)
    A. Procedures to be followed by applicants when seeking approval for Import Permit / Import
    Licence.
    (1) Application for a Phytosanitary Import Permit (IP).
    a. The importer shall apply to National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) for a Phytosanitary
    Import Permit by completing an application form for the importation of plants/plant products/
    regulated articles.
    b. Through the application, the importer shall provide a range of information including:
    The common name and scientific name, plant part, presentation, intended use, transgenic
    origin and country of origin.
    Quantity to be imported, point of entry, approximate date of arrival.
    Name and Address of the exporter.
    Application for a Phytosanitary Import Permit must be made well in advance of the shipment
    since a phytosanitary certificate dated before the date when the IP was issued is invalid and
    therefore will not be accepted.
    (2) Registration of the Application
    a. Upon receipt, the application will be registered with number and date into the Phytosanitary
    Import Permit Applications Register.
    (3) Fee for a Phytosanitary Import Permit (Pending)
    a. The Importer shall pay the prescribed fee to the NPPO office for obtaining the Phytosanitary
    Import Permit as per the provisions under The Plants Protection Regulations, at the time the
    application is submitted. An official receipt for the payment, indicating the amount and the date, as
    well the official number assigned to the Application, will be issued.
    (4) Phytosanitary Import Permit Issuance
    a. On satisfactory receipt of all required information, the Phytosanitary Import Permit will be issued
    by the NPPO. Each IP will have a unique IP number.
    (5) Importer's Responsibilities
    a. It is the responsibility of the Importer to:
    • provide the correct information required in the Application for the Import Permit form
    • To assist the NPPO to source the needed information to get the Pest Risk Assessment done (if
    required).
    • To make available the issued Phytosanitary Import Permit to the exporter or NPPO of the
    exporting country, before the Phytosanitary Certificate for the particular consignment has
    been issued.
    • To require that Import Permit No. is indicated in the Phytosanitary Certificate.
